In Richard Rohr’s book, Everything Belongs, he writes:
The people who know God well — mystics, hermits, prayerful people, those who risk everything to find God — always meet a lover, not a dictator. [1]
The beauty of meeting God the Lover is knowing that God is not only an object of love but the Source of Love.
And loving God is loving the Source of Real Love.
Loving God is loving Love.
If you “go to” God and find an angry dictator, I’m afraid you are not dealing with God.
For God is love.
Our contemplative life, then, is about “going to” love….only to realize it’s right here, already.
There is nowhere to Go.
God is where you are!
I love you with the ever-present, Universal Love that is God.
