Enjoy the witty zen story above.
It is falsely attributed to the Buddha, but a beautiful depiction of the purpose of contemplative prayer or meditation.
One major meditation (or contemplative prayer) myth that comes up in spiritual and religious circles is:
Thinking it’s about gaining/getting you peace, joy, God, or enlightenment. It ain’t. Meditation, in its deepest sense, is about letting go of all the mental/emotional/behavioral/societal debris & drama that is overshadowing the peace, joy, and God-Goodness within you.
Not “getting anything” is a tough sell for meditation and contemplative prayer, but don’t we all want to *lose our anger, anxiety, insecurity, etc.?
I do.
How are you finding this to be true?
